Carlos Castilla – guitar
Highly acclaimed as recitalist, pedagogue, and adjudicator Carlos Castilla was an Associate Professor at the Music Department of Universidad del Atlántico in his native Colombia, where he taught classical guitar and chamber music. He has also served at William Carey University, MGCC, The University of Southern Mississippi, and Bethel University.
Carlos has being featured as a soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles, as well as in solo recitals in different cities of Latin-America and the United States. He is the co-founder of Duo Guitiano, along with Cuban pianist Amanda Virelles. He is known for his innovative technique, warm and powerful sound, and soulful interpretations. Also, Castilla has performed in seminars and master classes for guitar icons such as Manuel Barrueco, Alirio Diaz, Eduardo Fernandez, Thomas Patterson, Costa Cotsiolis, Joaquin Clerch and Leo Brouwer.
Dr. Castilla holds a Bachelor of music from Los Andes University at Bogotá-Colombia where he studied with Maestro Jaime Arias Obregón. He did advanced studies in guitar performance in Havana-Cuba at Instituto Superior de Arte, and also holds a Master degree and a Doctorate in Guitar performance and pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi, with Dr. Nicholas Ciraldo.
Parallel to the classical guitar Castilla is a versatile session recording artist, with an interesting variety of styles and music languages working in recording studios not only as a performer but also as a producer and sound engineer.
